Galloping and jumping around a cross-country course
requires the ultimate in leg protection. A cross-country boot needs
to perform the following tasks -
* protect the tendons, ligaments & joints
of the lower fore and hindleg against striking a jump, from
brushing or being hit by another hoof, and to disperse impact force
against the leg from a blow.
* fit securely and stay in place without rubbing
the skin.
* be lightweight and not impede the horse’s
natural jumping and galloping motion.
* prevent unnecessary dirt, mud or grit from
working its way between the leg and boot lining, which may rub
and/or cause pressure points.
* not retain unnecessary moisture from water
jumps or wet grass, and to wick away sweat – a wet boot becomes
heavy and may cause rubbing.
* be constructed of high grade materials proven
to withstand the rigors of cross-country.
* offer breathability and not unnecessarily heat
the leg – taking the boots off immediately after finishing the
cross-country course is the easiest way to release any heat any
boot may create!! (Of course no horse has died from overheated legs
on cross-country...however, many career-limiting injuries to the
legs vital structures could have been prevented or lessened if the
boots offered more substantial protection).
Features include -
* 2.5mm vinyl strike pad outer shell – a
strong yet flexible outer layer, impact resistant, easy to
clean.
* 3mm rubber impact dispersion layer – sandwiched
between the vinyl outer and fleece lining, designed to
disperse/cushion impact to the leg.
* Sherpa synthetic fleece lining – lightweight
and machine washable, the sherpa lining discourages dirt, grit and
mud from getting up under the boot & reduces the chance of
rubbing.
* Unshatterable moulded tendon/cannon strike
shield – protects the tendons/ligaments at the back of the front
leg, and the cannon bone at the front of the back leg, from impact
related injuries.
* Webbing fetlock protector flap – positioned
over the front of both front & hind fetlocks, this flap reduces
the chance of cuts and grazes to the joint, and reduces jumpers
bumps' (swellings on the front of the hind fetlock caused by impact
from jumping).
* Functional Style – our Cross-Country boots are
shaped to offer maximal protection to the legs, without
compromising the ability to freely gallop and tuck the legs up
tightly over the biggest jumps. The horse must be able to utilize a
free range of joint motion, therefore requiring a boot that moulds
and flexes with the joints.
